About the Free Advice Project by Tanja Barnes
The Free Advice Project is a vlogumentary featuring videos, quotes, poetry, photographs and other forms of digital media about advice that is free. It was inspired by the expression “Information wants to be free” which was coined by Stewart Brand when he spoke at the first Hackers’ Conference in 1984.
The actual quote is: “On the one hand information wants to be expensive, because it’s so valuable. The right information in the right place just changes your life. On the other hand, information wants to be free, because the cost of getting it out is getting lower and lower all the time. So you have these two fighting against each other.”
Chris Anderson, editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine and author of ”The Long Tail” believes the value of all things digital is trending towards zero. He goes further to say that $0.00 is the future of business and he predicts an era of freeconomics.
Through the Free Advice Project, I aspire to engage in a conversation with my audience to explore the notion of free advice versus free information using an electronic medium and incorporating tools and utilities that are free to use. I hope to expand the topic to other things that we as Americans value as free: freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of information (not to mention free press, free hugs, free love and free lunches).
This project is set to expire on its 100th webisode but it’s possible I may extend that based on the feedback received.
Have you got any free advice to share? I’d love to hear about it! Please participate and offer up your free advice on any subject. Leave a text comment — or even better: leave a video comment through the website Seesmic by clicking on the “comments” link below each post. I am also syndicating this show via free video hosting services such as  BlipTV,  MetaCafe,  DailyMotion,  Viddler,  Crackle,  Revver, Veoh, MySpace and of course, YouTube.
Some other ways you can offer free advice is by leaving a message at our hotline which is 310-439-8754 or sending us an e-mail at freeadvice.tumblr@gmail.com
If you like the vidcast, then show me some love! Please leave a positive review in iTunes as soon as I set up the page there. (I will notify everybody in an upcoming blog post as soon as it becomes available).
Finally, caveat emptor! Let the free-ks beware: I am a proponent of free speech. To that end, I am not responsible for the use of expletives and vulgar language that may be used by the guests on the vidcast. I will try to advise you whenever an episode is NSFW.
